SUMMARY:A new era of Market Gardening - Syntropic Agroforestry Field Day
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE TO SECURE YOUR SPOT!! \nWe are delighted to be hosting  Thiago Barbosa from Syntropic Solutions on the 12th May for an informative session on Syntropic Agroforestry. Last year we worked with fellow Syntropic educator Scott Hall from Syntropia to install a food forest garden on Kandanga Farm – we have been so impressed we have started a garden at the Farm Store that will grow fresh\, organic produce that we can use in cafe dishes and make available through the store. Syntropic Solutions work throughout the region installing gardens and mentoring landowners to smooth the ongoing management process. This field day is a great opportunity to get an overview of Syntropics and answer your questions about whether this type of Agroforestry will work for you plus if Syntropic Solutions can help you on your journey. \nWhat is Syntropics? \nAn innovative approach to regenerative agriculture\, Syntropic Agroforestry aims to produce an abundant array of horticultural\, timber and other crops while regenerating ecosystems and creating ecological resilience\, climate stability\, economic prosperity and healthy communities. \nThe method is based on the principles of Syntropic Agroforestry\, introduced by Swiss-Brazilian scientist\, Ernst Gotsch\, who has already spent almost 50 years researching ecosystem regeneration and sustainable food production. \nThe technique used can be applicable from suburban backyards to large-scale farmers and maximises the positive environmental\, economic\, and social impact by: \n·      Re-connecting humans with nature and its natural cycles \n·      Providing healthy\, diverse\, and nutrient dense foods \n·      Building community and enhances food security \n·      Improving soil health \n·      Producing a great amount of organic matter to feed the soil biota \n·      Reducing / eliminating dependency on external inputs such as fertilizers and irrigation \n·      Decreasing susceptibility to pests and diseases \n·      Increasing water retention and cycling \n·      Increasing biodiversity of plants\, insects\, and animals \n·      Sequestering carbon\, contributing to climate stability \nWhether you want to improve your veggie garden\, grow your food forest\, start a commercial market garden\, transition from conventional farming to regenerative farming or simply learn a different technique\, this is the right fit for you. \nEveryone is welcome! \nIf you are still unsure what this is all about\, please click here for more info! \nLocation:\nKandanga Farm Store \n93 Main Street\, Kandanga\, QLD 4570 \nDate:\nFriday\, 12th May 2023 \nTime:\nFrom 9am to 12pm \nInvestment:\nAU$59* per person \n*Includes delicious morning tea with ingredients sourced from the farm and locally \nCLICK HERE TO SECURE YOUR SPOT!!

SUMMARY:Introduction to Creek Processes and Behaviour - Flatten Your Hydrograph July 30 with The Creek Doctor
DESCRIPTION:  \nAre fluctuations in your creek flows becoming more noticeable? Are you seeing erosion along your waterways? Join Creek Doctor Peter McAdam at Kandanga Farm for a day of learning about the hydrological system (creeks and waterways)\, learn to read your landscape and gain knowledge on how to conserve or rehabilitate them. This is a three-day course crammed into one.  Peter gets to the bottom of how you can flatten your hydrograph to reduce damage and increase utilisation of our precious resources – water and landscape. \nYour day will be split into 2  sessions \nSession 1 \nAn introduction to creek processes and behaviour.  Learn how to interpret the patterns of change and understand the clues in the forms and processes.  What is the hydrological cycle? How can drawing streams/creeks/catchments give you a better grasp of the stream as a dynamic system? When dealing with erosion\, is creek bank erosion the real problem or is erosion of the creek bed the core issue? Where is the best place to focus your efforts? Is rehabilitation or conservation required? \nSession 2 \nVisit different areas of a local creek to understand theory in practice. Identify landscape features and how they impact hydrology. Discuss potential remedies. \nAt the completion of the day you will have a better understanding of how waterways behave due to natural processes and human impact. You’ll have a better appreciation of how well intentioned but uninformed groundworks can create more problems than they solve. You’ll also begin to understand some of the basic actions you can take to improve hydrological function in your landscape as well as touching on potential permits and conditions you’ll need to address when applying to do in-stream works. \nAttendees will be encouraged to participate\, share ideas\, problems\, thoughts and doubts!  You’ll do some simple drawings of landscape features and you are encouraged to bring photos of your own problems and ideas for discussion as practical examples are the best way to broaden your understanding in a real sense. \nOn booking\, participants will be invited to phone Peter to discuss preparation for the sessions to get the most out of the days.  You will also have the opportunity to follow up afterwards with questions for clarification. \n  \nPrice of $150 includes both sessions\, morning tea and lunch.  \n  \nAbout The Creek Doctor \nPeter has lived in the Mary Valley for nearly 18 years and visiting this area regularly for around 40 years.  He studied environmental science and his favourite subjects were hydrology and soil physics\, environmental chemistry\, soils and geomorphology.  Peter has expanded his knowledge to include a study of history\, especially descriptions of landscape\, and has a strong interest in community participation and planning.  Peter also studied environmental law. \nPeter has designed and constructed hundreds of instream structures focusing on locally available natural materials like logs\, rocks and clay.  They’ve worked and lasted well\, and proved good value for money. \n

Joel has a passion for assistive tech\, participating in hackathons to develop open source technology and shared this passion as a teacher of rapid prototyping at Monash University. \nVimana Tech is an Australian tech company creating and assembling technology for value to benefit those in rural Australia with a particular focus on agriculture. Vimana focus’s on enhancing the interaction between technology and people by assembling technology for value. \n  \n  \nPurple Hive Project & Vimana Tech \nFocused on agriculture\, Vimana Tech lead delivery on the Purple Hive project\, responsible for the design and invention of the device. Vimana tech was responsible for the design\, manufacturing and installation of the Purple Hive. \nWhen the opportunity to collaborate on such an exciting project with a proud Australian company\, we jumped.
