SUMMARY:GourMAY 2026 Seasonal Long Table Lunch with Matt Golinski May 9
DESCRIPTION:It’s GourMAY!!! And we are so excited to welcome back the wonderful Matt Golinski to celebrate the flavours of Autumn. \nThere is no pretense with Matt\, just a passion for food prepared from the freshest local ingredients grown by his farmer friends. One of the most memorable things about Matt’s meals (apart from the food!) is the time he takes to explain the menu\, the ingredients and the farmers that produced them. You can’t help but be inspired by Matt’s creativity and sensitivity with food and you’ll leave with an appreciation of just how much good food comes out of the Mary Valley and surrounding region. This is not dinner for the sake of it\, this is a meal to connect you to the local landscape and the people who farm here. \nServed like a family meal on long tables this is an experience to enjoy real food and the magic that happens when good people come together to eat.  You’ll be joining our Seasonal Starter Workshop participants\, who will have spent the proceeding few hours expanding their knowledge on growing food organically\, with this meal culminating their winter preparation workshop with us at the Farm Store. In fact\, some of the produce you will be eating will be what was planted during their autumn preparation workshop back in February. \nYou never leave hungry when Matt’s cooking – are you ready for a culinary adventure? Spots are limited so book now to secure your spot. \nA menu will be posted closer to the event once Matt has touched base with all his farmer suppliers to see what they’ve got growing. \nCost is $125.50 pp plus OzTix booking fee. This includes all courses. A range of beverages including beer\, wine and cocktails as well as non-alcoholic choices will be available for purchase on the night. \n  \nWho is Matt Golinski? \n\nMatt is a highly regarded professional chef with a passion for creating cuisine with fresh\, seasonal and local ingredients. \n\n\nMatt’s love of food started at an early age. Growing up on a tropical fruit farm on the Sunshine Coast surrounded by fresh produce has influenced his style of cooking throughout his entire career. By the age of 12\, he had decided he wanted to be a chef\, and 31 years later his passion for the industry he loves only continues to grow by the day. \nWell-known as one of the original team members of the popular ‘Ready Steady Cook’ television series\, Matt has worked as executive chef at some of Queensland’s leading restaurants and founded his own catering company – find out more www.mattgolinski.com.au \n\nWhat is GourMAY? \nGourMay Mary Valley is a month long festival to celebrate the regions farmers\, producers and creators. Running throughout the month of May\, the calendar includes farm tours and open days\, breakfast\, lunch and dinners\, workshops\, art\, film\, music\, walking tours and much more –  concluding with a Gala Dinner Party. Plus the Festival Day Imbil with food stalls\, food vendors\, cooking demonstrations\, food and farming presentations\, competitions and more. SUMMARY:Season Starter Session - get ready for WINTER
DESCRIPTION:Regenerating your plot\, big or small\, while getting poison out of the food chain and building natural capital is all doable but requires a proactive approach to land management. But what do you do and when do you do it? Our Season Starter Sessions are a “nuts & bolts” approach to becoming proactive and avoiding the common issues faced by many producers- poor soil\, nutrition gaps (for humans and animals)\, parasite & pest burdens\, land degradation\, unhealthy water systems and an underperforming food production system. \nReactive management limits your ability to get off the chemical train. It also leads to overwhelm and missed opportunities. Our role in the Season Starters is to help you get in the driver’s seat for your farm\, garden or plot – season by season and year by year. Deal with the issues before they even become issues. \nTopics covered each session include – \n\nThe fundamentals of Regenerative Agriculture – practically\nSeasonal activities for land management to build soil health\nSeasonal activities for animal management – integrating livestock\, nutrition\, marketing\, breeding\nWhat to plant and jobs to do in your home veg garden\nWorking with nature rather than fighting\n\nWith guest speakers as well as drawing on our own decade plus of experience producing certified organic beef while still regenerating our landscape in the high-parasite\, sub-tropical Mary Valley region. \n  \nRemaining 2025 Dates \n  \nFriday May 9th 2pm – 5:30pm PREPARING FOR WINTER \nSaturday August 23rd 10am – 1pm PREPARING FOR SPRING \nSaturday November 8th 10am – 1pm PREPARING FOR SUMMER \nCost is $65 per session  \n  \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:A new era of Market Gardening - Syntropic Agroforestry Field Day
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE TO SECURE YOUR SPOT!! \nWe are delighted to be hosting  Thiago Barbosa from Syntropic Solutions on the 12th May for an informative session on Syntropic Agroforestry. Last year we worked with fellow Syntropic educator Scott Hall from Syntropia to install a food forest garden on Kandanga Farm – we have been so impressed we have started a garden at the Farm Store that will grow fresh\, organic produce that we can use in cafe dishes and make available through the store. Syntropic Solutions work throughout the region installing gardens and mentoring landowners to smooth the ongoing management process. This field day is a great opportunity to get an overview of Syntropics and answer your questions about whether this type of Agroforestry will work for you plus if Syntropic Solutions can help you on your journey. \nWhat is Syntropics? \nAn innovative approach to regenerative agriculture\, Syntropic Agroforestry aims to produce an abundant array of horticultural\, timber and other crops while regenerating ecosystems and creating ecological resilience\, climate stability\, economic prosperity and healthy communities. \nThe method is based on the principles of Syntropic Agroforestry\, introduced by Swiss-Brazilian scientist\, Ernst Gotsch\, who has already spent almost 50 years researching ecosystem regeneration and sustainable food production. \nThe technique used can be applicable from suburban backyards to large-scale farmers and maximises the positive environmental\, economic\, and social impact by: \n·      Re-connecting humans with nature and its natural cycles \n·      Providing healthy\, diverse\, and nutrient dense foods \n·      Building community and enhances food security \n·      Improving soil health \n·      Producing a great amount of organic matter to feed the soil biota \n·      Reducing / eliminating dependency on external inputs such as fertilizers and irrigation \n·      Decreasing susceptibility to pests and diseases \n·      Increasing water retention and cycling \n·      Increasing biodiversity of plants\, insects\, and animals \n·      Sequestering carbon\, contributing to climate stability \nWhether you want to improve your veggie garden\, grow your food forest\, start a commercial market garden\, transition from conventional farming to regenerative farming or simply learn a different technique\, this is the right fit for you. \nEveryone is welcome! \nIf you are still unsure what this is all about\, please click here for more info! \nLocation:\nKandanga Farm Store \n93 Main Street\, Kandanga\, QLD 4570 \nDate:\nFriday\, 12th May 2023 \nTime:\nFrom 9am to 12pm \nInvestment:\nAU$59* per person \n*Includes delicious morning tea with ingredients sourced from the farm and locally \nCLICK HERE TO SECURE YOUR SPOT!!

SUMMARY:Introduction to Creek Processes and Behaviour - Flatten Your Hydrograph July 30 with The Creek Doctor
DESCRIPTION:  \nAre fluctuations in your creek flows becoming more noticeable? Are you seeing erosion along your waterways? Join Creek Doctor Peter McAdam at Kandanga Farm for a day of learning about the hydrological system (creeks and waterways)\, learn to read your landscape and gain knowledge on how to conserve or rehabilitate them. This is a three-day course crammed into one.  Peter gets to the bottom of how you can flatten your hydrograph to reduce damage and increase utilisation of our precious resources – water and landscape. \nYour day will be split into 2  sessions \nSession 1 \nAn introduction to creek processes and behaviour.  Learn how to interpret the patterns of change and understand the clues in the forms and processes.  What is the hydrological cycle? How can drawing streams/creeks/catchments give you a better grasp of the stream as a dynamic system? When dealing with erosion\, is creek bank erosion the real problem or is erosion of the creek bed the core issue? Where is the best place to focus your efforts? Is rehabilitation or conservation required? \nSession 2 \nVisit different areas of a local creek to understand theory in practice. Identify landscape features and how they impact hydrology. Discuss potential remedies. \nAt the completion of the day you will have a better understanding of how waterways behave due to natural processes and human impact. You’ll have a better appreciation of how well intentioned but uninformed groundworks can create more problems than they solve. You’ll also begin to understand some of the basic actions you can take to improve hydrological function in your landscape as well as touching on potential permits and conditions you’ll need to address when applying to do in-stream works. \nAttendees will be encouraged to participate\, share ideas\, problems\, thoughts and doubts!  You’ll do some simple drawings of landscape features and you are encouraged to bring photos of your own problems and ideas for discussion as practical examples are the best way to broaden your understanding in a real sense. \nOn booking\, participants will be invited to phone Peter to discuss preparation for the sessions to get the most out of the days.  You will also have the opportunity to follow up afterwards with questions for clarification. \n  \nPrice of $150 includes both sessions\, morning tea and lunch.  \n  \nAbout The Creek Doctor \nPeter has lived in the Mary Valley for nearly 18 years and visiting this area regularly for around 40 years.  He studied environmental science and his favourite subjects were hydrology and soil physics\, environmental chemistry\, soils and geomorphology.  Peter has expanded his knowledge to include a study of history\, especially descriptions of landscape\, and has a strong interest in community participation and planning.  Peter also studied environmental law. \nPeter has designed and constructed hundreds of instream structures focusing on locally available natural materials like logs\, rocks and clay.  They’ve worked and lasted well\, and proved good value for money. \n
