Tasmania has a target of 100% renewable energy by Tasmania has a target of 100% renewable energy by 2022. The connection of the Granville Harbour wind farm today means by that time they’ll actually be generating so much green energy they’ll be able to export it to the mainland (with a new Basslink cable). Queensland also announced this week a green hydrogen project for Gladstone with tremendous implications particularly for transport and electricity generation industries locally but also creating a new export opportunity for Australia. Best of all we are using some of our natural assets that don’t have to be “extracted” like space, sun & wind. Green Hydrogen is seen as the great hope for the future of energy and now it seems this future is upon us! “If we always do what we’ve always done, we’ll always get what we’ve always got” so this Thursday we are thankful for those prepared to have a crack. Often change happens so slowly because it’s not in the interests of those with power to have change.
So we thank those who don’t understand the concept of “NO” and are prepared to push through no matter what. Great to see two fantastic milestones in the future of energy achieved on this #thankfulthursday and we’re wondering if hydrogen will be Australia’s new Coal & Oil.

Yesterday we spent the day in northern Tassie lear Yesterday we spent the day in northern Tassie learning all about hemp. From growing it to the processing of it to the seemingly infinite uses for it from a superfood, to stockfeed, to an incredible housing material. Every part of the plant is useable and it ticks the boxes in terms of cropping that can also help in the regeneration of landscapes. We’re hoping the industry, which is in its infancy here in Australia, gets the investment and brain power it needs to grow and prosper.

It’s easier to go with the herd. Questioning can It’s easier to go with the herd. Questioning can lead to conflict and ridicule and that takes courage and energy to withstand. You know those non conformists hey - the ones who don’t just accept what they’re told but have to get all awkward and ask why. I know them - I’m mother to two of them, married to one and yep I’m one too. It makes for some challenging domestic interactions! But this #thankfulthursday I’m so grateful for those who think for themselves and who question whether what is common is actually right. Like those who question the use of poison in our food chain and those who question industrial farming practices and those who question the integrity of manufactured and mass produced food. Even those who question our own integrity - it helps to keep us true to ourselves. Sometimes the questions aren’t comfortable for those being questioned but where would we be if we believed everything we were told all of the time?

Mistakes. We all make them even though we wish we Mistakes. We all make them even though we wish we didn’t. This #thankfulthursday we’re grateful we can learn from our failings. In agriculture there’s a lot to learn from. Hopefully we’re smart enough to know when we’ve headed down the wrong track. And, hopefully we have half a clue of what the right track looks like too. Let’s focus on what we want rather than what we don’t. We’ll still make mistakes of course, but even if from them all we gain is the knowledge of what doesn’t work - we’re still better informed than we were.
With the rain will come the weeds. Wonderful weeds With the rain will come the weeds. Wonderful weeds! Pioneering hard, depleted, drought ravaged ground. That ground won’t welcome soft palatable veggies and grasses until the weeds have done their job - breaking hard soil, mining fertility, attracting biodiversity by feeding insects as well. And you don’t even have to buy them, they do it all for free. Don’t poison them - this #thankfulthursday show some gratitude to wonderful weeds 😉
This #thankfulthursday .... it’s gotta be rain This #thankfulthursday .... it’s gotta be rain
Hello from the road! We are at Wallendbean not far Hello from the road! We are at Wallendbean not far from Cootamundra. We’re determined on this trip to avoid the supermarkets and buy our produce from small businesses and direct from farms. We brought a stash from home with us too and we’re a little sad this morning to come to the end of our @foragefarms eggs and we’re getting low on John Tidy’s honey too. It’s another reminder about how lucky we are in The Mary Valley to have at our fingertips such incredible produce quality and diversity. Let us know of any great small businesses offering local produce as we would love to support them! And of course travellers to KANDANGA.... drop into Kandanga Farm Store to pick up Forage Eggs and bacon, Johns honey plus local K2 Beef, greens, preserves and more!

Does it stun you sometimes that they don’t talk yet you communicate with each other often better than you do with your fellow humans? Or is that just me...

If there’s ever a time of year to reflect on one If there’s ever a time of year to reflect on ones blessings surely this is it. This #thankfulthursday even though there is much in our country and world to get us down, there’s still so much to be grateful for. We can’t settle on just one so we’ll name a few ..... family, Christmas dinners, days to rest, people who give of themselves, rain, homemade presents, real food, wildlife, freedom, a comfy bed, childhood innocence, uncontrollable giggling, fat cattle, kindness..... please keep this list growing - what are you thankful for?
But wait there’s more..... But wait there’s more.....

This #thankfulthursday we’re grateful for friend This #thankfulthursday we’re grateful for friends and knowing we’re part of a tribe. It’s the impromptu get togethers (plus the planned ones), the conversations that just pick up where they left off and the laughs that keep us sane during trying times. Maybe it’s just that feeling of being truly known. Wishing you all time with good friends this Christmas period, full of laughter and love and in-jokes and good food and deep and meaningfuls that keep your cup overflowing.
This #thankfulthursday we are grateful for trees. This #thankfulthursday we are grateful for trees. The shade they give, the oxygen they create, their transpiration that enables a water cycle, the stability they give to landscapes, the habitat they provide, the food, the timber, the beauty. I’m sure there’s more... Thank you trees for your strong and constant presence. May we treat you with the respect you deserve.
